Published on:

From indoor fun, and lively music to outdoor adventures. Get ready to make the most of the season.

Winter’s wet blanket is back. But… don’t let that you get you down! Campbell River’s local winter scene has its perks.

Between outdoor spots and cozy live entertainment, there’s enough to distract you from the gloom for a bit… until spring brings the farmer’s market, morning low-tide beachcombing and sunshine.

Here’s my picks for finding things to do around town during the winter:

Things to Do Indoors

When the rain starts to come down, it’s a good time to get into Campbell River’s rich history and culture.

The Campbell River Museum offers a well-curated glimpse into the past, while the Campbell River Art Gallery showcases work from local artists.

If you’re in the mood for some entertainment, grab tickets for the latest performances at the Tidemark Theatre & Rivercity Players Stage… or go head-to-head in a friendly game at the bowling alley.

Music lovers will find plenty to enjoy this winter.

Check out SoCal Restaurant, Beach Fire Brewing, the Anchor Inn or Sessions Tap Room for performances from local bands and touring comedians.

Don’t forget about the curling club! Stop by and have a snack, watch the action, and relax in the lounge.

Outdoor Activities

The outdoors in Campbell River are nothing short of magical, even in winter.

A hike at in Beaver Lodge Lands or Elk Falls Provincial Park is fantastic on a rainy day. Get your rain gear on and head out!

For a bit of adventure, try mountain biking the trails at Snowden Forest, or enjoy the peace of beachcombing at Willow Point Reef & Jaycee Park.

Fun for the Whole Family

For family fun, visit the Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex, where you can enjoy swimming and ice skating indoors. You can also enjoy a Friday evening with the whole family watching our local team — The Storm play hockey.

The Campbell River Community Centre also offers a variety of activities, including arts, crafts, and fitness programs.

Meanwhile, the Sportsplex is perfect for families who want to enjoy some sports or fitness activities together.

Day Trips and Excursions 🛥️🏞️

When you feel like getting out of town, there are plenty of spots to visit nearby.

Take a ferry ride to Quadra Island to explore its trails and art communities. Sayward offers small-town charm with stunning scenery, while Gold River boasts incredible natural beauty and hiking options.

Head to Coombs to browse unique shops and check out the quirky goats on the roof. For more local flavor, a trip to the Comox Valley promises shopping, dining, and artsy vibes.

Looking Forward to Spring 🌷

Sure, winter has its perks, but let’s be honest, we’re all counting down to spring in Campbell River.

The Farmers Market will be back, bustling with fresh produce and quirky local crafts—definitely worth a wander. And as things start to bloom, those outdoor trails just get better.

Winter’s got its charm here, but let’s face it, spring is when the real magic happens.

Until then, bundle up and make the best of the season!
