Campfire Restrictions to be Lifted 🔥

Just announced: The Campfire Ban will be lifted!

Effective noon on May 15th, 2026 the campfire ban ends for the Coastal Fire Region, including Campbell River. - City of Campbell River

🔥Campfires are allowed as of May 15th, 2026 – along with recreational fires used for keeping warm or cooking.

Before lighting a fire of any size, please check with your local jurisdiction (municipality, First Nations, etc.) as they may have their own restrictions in place.

Fines for Violating Fire Restrictions

Remember fire restrictions are serious! Ban violators could face serious consequences, such as:

  • A fine of $1,150
  • An additional penalty of up to $10,000
  • If found guilty in court, a fine of up to $100,000 and/or up to one year in jail

If your actions cause or help start a wildfire, you may have to pay for all firefighting costs. You might also be responsible for damages to government property, which can be very expensive.
