Mushroom Picking Class for Beginners

September 26 @ 6:00 pm September 27 @ 12:00 pm

Hey Folks!

I’m excited to teach a few classes about identifying, foraging, and cooking mushrooms this year through the City of Campbell River’s rec program!

This class is called “Mushroom Picking for Beginners – Identification and Foraging” and will be held on September 26th & 27th.

Day 1: Classroom session (6:00pm at the Sportsplex) where I’ll teach you how to identify mushrooms and share the best spots and times for foraging.

Day 2: We’ll meet at Beaver Lodge Lands (at 10:30am) for a hands-on forest walk, identifying fascinating fungi in their natural habitat.

After these two days, you’ll have the knowledge and real-world experience to safely identify edible mushrooms — and know which deadly varieties to avoid at all costs.

About me: I’ve been studying mushrooms around Campbell River for the past 20 years, and I absolutely love taking people on forest walks to introduce them to our incredible mushroom diversity.

I regularly forage over 30 species of edible mushrooms, and these sessions will introduce you to some of my favorites.

Here is a guide I wrote about local mushrooms you might find interesting.
