Dog Parks in Campbell River

Campbell River has four official off-leash dog parks:

Penfield West Dog Park

Penfield West Dog Park – Well fenced area of weedy grass, wood chips, dirt, grass and some shady tree areas.

When my dog was a pup I would take her here to learn to socialize with other dogs during covid. It’s not huge, but it’s big enough to run.

Address: 2090 College Dr, Campbell River

Willow Point Dog Agility Park

Willow Point Dog Agility Park – Small, but worth checking out with your dog. Located in near the Sportsplex in the Willow Point Park, it’s sort of hidden and not as busy as the Penfield West Dog Park.

Address: 1800 S Alder St, Campbell River

The entrance to the Penfield West Dog Park

The above are permanent dog parks, but as of summer 2025 — the city has also opened two new temporary off-leash dog parks:

Dog Field at Robron Rotary Fields

Robron Rotary Fields – This is a fantastic new spot to let your dogs run in a huge fully-fenced + safety-gated field. No trees or shady spots, and no water source, but this is a great spot to hang out with your dog and perfect for frisbee or playing catch.

Address: 425 B Merecroft Rd, Campbell River
(the off-leash area is past the Astroturf field, towards Robron)

Corner of Peterson & Evergreen

Peterson & Evergreen – This is another new off-leash dog park, hurrah! It’s suppose to be temporary, but the city hasn’t announced how temporary.

Address: 20 S Peterson Rd, Campbell River (not the official address, but this will get you to the right spot in google maps)

Dog-Friendly Hotels in Campbell River

Finding the perfect place to stay while traveling with your dog can be a challenge. Luckily, Campbell River offers several pet-friendly hotels that ensure both you and your furry friend have a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

These are in no particular order, and I have not received any compensation for posting the hotels on this site. If I have personal experience with a hotel, I will give my feedback, but overall please consider this a starting point and research these hotels and make sure to reach out their pet policy works for you.

Anchor Inn & Suites

Anchor Inn & Suites – Budget-friendly, oceanfront hotel that allows dogs. Pet friendly rooms, based on availability. Has a pool & probably the best ocean view of a hotel in town.

I’ve stayed here with my 2 dogs and although it wasn’t fancy, it was comfortable & the staff were friendly and accommodating for the dogs.

Coast Discovery Inn

Coast Discovery Inn – Allows dogs, friendly staff. I have stayed here with two dogs, and the room was nice, breakfast sucked.

Another gripe: They really don’t have anywhere for a dog to pee on the property. Not a huge problem during the day, you can take a walk to the nearby park.

However, it is a pain to leave the hotel property if the weather is miserable or late at night.

Ramada by Wyndham

Ramada by Wyndham Campbell River – Allows dogs in some rooms. Good location for walking along the Seawalk to enjoy enjoy the fresh air with your pup.

Free breakfast & has a gym and a pool (but the pool seems closed for maintenance more often than it’s open).

Heron’s Landing Hotel

Heron’s Landing Hotel – Pet friendly rooms, based on availability. All rooms have a balcony, some with an ocean view.

It’s a good location for walking along the Seawalk and there are a few restaurants within walking distance.

I’ve stayed here with my two dogs and it was a friendly place.

Oyster Bay Resorts

Oyster Bay Resorts – On the outskirts of town. Pet-friendly chalets are available for a $25 per visit charge. All chalets have an ocean view of the Georgia Strait.

This is a cool resort. I have never stayed here but have always heard good things, and many locals even rent these chalets as a mini stay-cation.

The Harbourside Inn

The Harbourside Inn – Allows pets. However, this isn’t a great place for families. It’s a bit rough.

Dog-Friendly Trails & Beaches

Campbell River is home to many parks, beaches, fields and trails perfect for outdoor adventures with your dog.

McIvor Lake is a local favorite for a swim with your dog

Whether you’re looking for a easy stroll or a more challenging hike, you’ll find numerous spots where your pup can explore and enjoy the great outdoors.

Beaver Lodge Lands

Beaver Lodge Lands – An amazing, beautiful and diverse network of trails. This is probably the most popular spot in town for dog walking.
Maps to the trail heads at: Trask Road and South McPhedran Road which have parking areas.

Driftwood Park

Driftwood Park (Black Creek) – About 25 minutes south of Campbell River, Driftwood park in Black Creek is a “leash optional” trail network. Horses are not permitted. Leashing is optional, except near the wildlife viewing platform where leashing is required.

McIvor Lake

McIvor Lake – This sandy-beach lake is a favorite with locals, and a great place to hang with your dog on sunny days. There are also plenty of trails around the lake — and a kinda spooky pet cemetery.

Look for signs to “Doggie Point” for the dog friendly beach.

Dog-Friendly Restaurants and Cafes

There’s no reason to leave your dog behind when dining out in Campbell River. The city boasts a variety of restaurants and cafes that welcome dogs, offering outdoor seating and a friendly atmosphere for both you and your canine companion.

Fifty Parallel Tap & Grill – Well-behaved dogs are OK on patio in certain areas.

Other Dog Resources in Campbell River

Dog Wash at Bosley’s – Has a self-serve dog washing area with everything you need to wash your dog. Cost is $15. These are great for folks travelling through or camping in the area.

Dog Friendly Apartments & Rentals

Finding a rental that allows dogs can be tough.

There are a handful of spots around town that allow dogs, but the place that really caters to dog owners seems to be the rentals by Broadstreet Properties on Merecroft.

Stay tuned as I’m working on a new page all about dog-friendly apartment complexes around town.

Tips for Traveling with Your Dog in Campbell River

Traveling with a dog requires a bit of extra planning, but it can lead to some of the most rewarding experiences.

Here are some helpful tips to ensure both you and your pet have a safe and enjoyable time exploring Campbell River.

  • Confirm your hotel booking is really dog-friendly. (call before booking to confirm)
  • Be careful & alert when your dog is on the beach. Barnacles and shells can make gruesome cuts in tender paws.
  • Another risk on beaches is washed up jellyfish…some dogs can’t help but licking them for some reason. Your dog will probably be fine, but likely to vomit from licking jellyfish.
  • If you’re dog gets stinky and dirty while visiting Campbell River, you can head to Bosley’s self-serve dog wash to clean your pooch.

Conclusion

From comfortable pet-friendly hotels to scenic parks and welcoming restaurants, Campbell River has something for every dog and their owner. Enjoy your visit and make the most of this wonderful city with your furry friend!
