January 2, 2026 – January 3, 2026
Quadrantids will be active from about December 28th, 2025 to January 12th, 2026 and reach its peak on the night of January 2 – 3, 2026.
Known for producing up to 200 meteors per hour, the average hourly rate typically falls around 25 meteors, with some bright and colorful fireballs making appearances even a few days after the peak.
🌠 Quadrantids Meteor Shower
This meteor shower is produced by dust grains left behind by the extinct comet 2003 EH1, discovered in 2003.
The Quadrantids run annually in late Dec into early Jan, and this year, the predicted peak is the evening of January 2nd 2025.
🕒 Viewing Conditions:
The full moon will not be helping view during the peak days, unfortunately. And the weather generally isn’t clear this time of year.
The best viewing will be after midnight, from a dark location away from city lights. The meteors will radiate from the constellation Bootes but can appear anywhere in the sky.
As the radiant point is positioned far north in the celestial sphere, this shower is particularly well-suited for observers in the Northern Hemisphere including British Columbia.
