On May 18th, The Museum at Campbell River is celebrating this special day with free admission and special events, including firing up the 1916 Empire Steam Donkey, one of the few operational donkeys on the coast.

Along with the Steam Donkey, visitors can enjoy Boiler Coffee, a coffee known for its thickness, served with a slice of delicious pie.

Guided tours of the Soyokaze, the Japanese cod fishing boat reunited with its Japanese owner post-Internment of Japanese Nationalists in Canada during WW II, will also be available. It is a significant part of the coast’s fishing legacy.

The Richard Calver Art Auction will be ongoing during this time, showcasing the talents of Quadra artist Richard Calver. Campbell River Art Gallery curator Jenelle Pasiechnik will be giving a lecture on Richard’s work and life at 2:00pm, providing a deeper understanding of his artistry.

The Museum will be open to the public for free all day, making it a perfect opportunity to bring a packed lunch and watch the steam donkey in action on the grass. Visitors are encouraged to mark their calendars and join in the celebration of their Museum.

The museum will be open from 10am to 5pm, with most of the special events happening between 1pm and 3pm.
