This full moon earned its name from early Native American tribes, who referred to it as the Hunter’s Moon, as this time of year marked the falling of leaves and the peak of game readiness for hunting.
In addition to its primary name, it has also been known as the Travel Moon and the Blood Moon. The earliest known reference to the term “Hunter’s Moon” dates back to 1710, as documented in the Oxford English Dictionary.
