December 4 @ 3:30 pm – 11:59 pm
As we end 2025, those who love stargazing have a cool event to get excited about βthe supermoon on December 4th.
Sometimes known as the “Cold Moon” this full moon will light up the winter sky if the weather cooperates with clear skies.
Where to Look
Here on the west coast of Canada, the moon will rise around 3:30pm PT in the Northeastern sky.
Fingers crossed for good weather, as this would be a perfect time to have a nice bonfire on the beach and watch the moon rise!
Fishing During the Full Moon
The full moon’s light & tides can have noticeable effects on fish behavior.
However, different fish species are affected differently by the moon. You’ll need to experiment in your local environment with your local species to see what is working best.
Journalling over time is a great way to do this (use a calendar with moon phases already on it to make it easy).
Here are some theories to test:
Mornings after the full moon seem universally considered bad for fishing (theories differ as to why), and especially bad timing for salmon.
Some fish species are best to fish for at night under the moonlight of the full moon.
Many fisherman say tidal salmon fishing is best when tidal activity is minimum: this would be the times farthest from the full and new moons.
