First Day of School in Campbell River

September 3 All day

The first day of school will be Tuesday, September 3, 2024 for most students, with some exceptions based on grade level.

Elementary Schools Kindergarten

Kindergarten families will be notified by their respective elementary schools about start dates. Most kindergarten students and families will attend for one hour on September 3.

The first few weeks of September will involve a gradual introduction to kindergarten, creating a comfortable and secure beginning to the child’s school experience, and allowing teachers to gather important information about each student.

After the first day, kindergarten teachers will contact families to discuss gradual entry, aiming for full days by around mid-September Some schools might be able to have kindergarten students start full days earlier, depending on the number of students.

Families desiring a longer gradual entry should meet with the teacher and school principal to discuss adaptations.

New Student Registrations

All new students must register to attend their neighbourhood school, depending on the availability of programs, space, and resources. This includes students entering kindergarten, those entering public school for the first time, and those moving from another district or neighbourhood.

If the neighbourhood school cannot accommodate the student or if registration is late, the student will be placed on a waitlist and required to attend another nearby school. To register, parents/guardians need to provide the child’s birth certificate, Care Card, and proof of the parent/guardian’s BC residency (e.g., hydro or telephone bills).

If You Have Requested A Transfer To A Different School

Students with approved transfer requests can start attending their new school on the first day of school. Those awaiting approval or on a waitlist must attend their current school until notified.

Late transfer requests will be added to the waitlist, and students must attend their current school until approval. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from the new school.

Returning Late From Summer Vacation Or Moving Away

Students already registered but returning late from summer break must notify their school by late August in writing to be included in the school’s enrolment count.

Students not in attendance the first week will be withdrawn unless the school has been contacted. If moving out of town, please notify your school office to help process school waitlists promptly.
