August 22 @ 11:07 pm – 11:59 pm
Every month, the new moon brings the darkest skies, strongest tides, and triggers amazing behaviors in sea creatures while guiding traditional farming practices.
This month, the new moon’s official time is 11:07pm PST.
What’s Important About the New Moon?
Tides – New moons cause the highest high tides, and lowest low tides. These are known as spring tides.
Astronomy – New moon = dark skies. Which is better for star-gazing and especially great for watching meteor showers. Although Perseids’ peak has come and gone, maybe there is suppose to be some straggler meteors until Aug 23rd, 2025.
Fishing – Lunar phases to affect the feeding patterns of fish. Some fisherman swear that the best time to fish are the days around the new moon.
Agriculture – Many traditional farmers see the new moon as the right time for starting plants and seeds.
