The Cowboy Junkies are a Canadian band that got started in Toronto back in 1985. They were formed by siblings Margo (vocals), Michael (guitar and songwriter), and Peter Timmins (drums), along with their buddy Alan Anton on bass.

Their music mixes alternative country, blues, and folk rock and is known for its dreamy and melancholic vibe, with Margo’s haunting voice stealing the show.

They hit the big time in 1988 with their album “The Trinity Session,” which was recorded with just one microphone in a church in Toronto. This album featured both original tracks and covers, like their unique take on Lou Reed’s “Sweet Jane.” The stripped-down style and intimate feel of the album caught a lot of people’s attention and earned them a loyal fan base.

Over the years, the Cowboy Junkies have put out a bunch of albums, always exploring different sounds and blending genres in their own way. Some of their notable works include “The Caution Horses” (1990), “Black Eyed Man” (1992), and the four-part “Nomad Series” (2010-2012).

Even though the music scene has changed a lot over the years, the Cowboy Junkies have stuck to their roots and kept their fans coming back for more with their genuine and heartfelt music. Their songs often touch on themes like love, loss, and longing, and they deliver them in a way that really connects with listeners.

They’re hailed as trailblazers of the alternative country genre, and their rich, atmospheric sound continues to captivate audiences everywhere.
